The Five Teams

Each team enters a different competition and builds a different machine. All five share Room 140A and the same sub-teams, and all five take new members. You join STEMWorks once, for a $50 club fee, and you can work with any of them.

Solar Car

Solar Car Challenge

Competes in the Solar Car Challenge. The team builds a fully custom motorized vehicle and tunes it for maximum solar efficiency, working across mechanical and electrical engineering — chassis and drivetrain on one side, array, battery, and motor controller on the other.

Roboboat

RoboNation RoboBoat
Night pool test of the autonomous boat before competition

Members design, manufacture, and program an autonomous boat for an international competition held by RoboNation — a field made up largely of university programs. The boat has to navigate a course, identify objects, and complete tasks with no driver.

Robotics

Redshift Robotics · First Robotics Competition

The Martin robotics team, Redshift Robotics, designs, builds, and programs a robot to complete tasks both autonomously and under driver control in the FIRST Robotics Competition. The season runs on a fixed build window, so the team works to a schedule from kickoff to competition.

M.A.R.S.

American Rocketry Challenge
M.A.R.S. members with their finished rockets

The Martin Aeronautics Rocketry Society is made up of a design team and a build team whose work is tested each year at the American Rocketry Challenge. Designs are simulated and refined before anything is cut, then flown against a strict altitude and duration target.

Drones

Bell RVR & AVR
The drone team at the Bell competition arena

Members build and operate RVR and AVR drones that fly in a competition hosted by Bell. The work splits between the airframes themselves, the autonomous flight code that runs the AVR missions, and the piloting for the remote-vehicle rounds.
